Old Hemlock was the home of author and Cosmopolitan illustrator George Bird Evans and his wife, Kay Evans. This log structure is believed to have been built in 1782 based on deed and land books. Old Hemlock has already been accepted in the National Register of Historic Places, but not for the age of the log structure. George Bird Evans' contributions to the "American way of life" from 1939 to 1971 granted Old Hemlock historical status in 2014. Tree-ring dating will help the Old Hemlock Foundation better recount the history of the house and land that is part of the Evans' legacy.
